The Queen of Cups

In the arts district, across the river, in the older part of downtown, there is a small and unassuming coffee shop, in a shambling brick building. An ordinary-looking place, without ostentatious signage or even a chalkboard of specials set out in the sidewalk. If you peer in through the dusty window, however, you will see an unusual array: almost all the patrons are supernaturals. The Queen of Cups is a peaceful place. Everyone pledges to be on best behavior. You don’t find the faeries fighting with the cave trolls, or else nobody gets their coffee. Sometimes you run out of oat milk or caramel syrup. Sometimes the toaster is broken. Sometimes a selkie misses home, or a medusa lost her job (again). These are the kind of problems it’s up to you to listen to, sympathize with, and maybe even help fix. Come join Puckett, Saribel, Steven and myself as we explore the romantic, adorable, weird café that is the Queen of Cups.

Changeling: The Lost is a beloved setting from the World of Darkness series. In this PbtA fanhack, we get to explore wonderful and haunting stories in a different system! This hack was created by Lowell and Sherri, you can find out more in this blog post: http://ageofravens.blogspot.com/2017/04/world-of-masks-pbta-changeling-lost.html (Tho it feature an older version of the hack) Changelings are humans who were taken by the Fae. Their time in Arcadia has changed and twisted them, as they were forced to serve out a durance to their cruel and inhuman masters. Changelings are those who managed to leave Arcadia and come back to the mortal world. They cannot return to their former lives, and must instead learn to create a new family and find their way in the world. In this session our series reaches it's climax as glamor, dream, and dreaded hedge come together in nightmarish colors. Can our motley hold together, and will their love for each other see them through? Or will vengeance and possessiveness tear them apart? New Gauntlet City needs heroes to stand up and fight, and hopefully you can find the Gauntleteer, too. We're using the Hearts & Souls RPG by Tim Kirk: Hearts & Souls is a superhero role-playing game that takes you back to the comic books. While fighting happens and duels break out, they occur because of longings, thwarted desires, and terrible duties. In a melodrama, reactions and responses are heightened, nothing is simple, and there’s always something at stake. You express and communicate through fighting, revealing things through those struggles. In this session we have a lot of great character moments, and everyone is invited to the engagement party of Chao and Sunset Chen. Sometimes, somebody or something has taken up residence, and we deal with them, too. The New Republic don't like us much either, so there's that." "Lucky for us, the township that we return to never asks questions. They need our salvage to keep flying, feeding, and breathing — and perhaps someday, if we pile up enough provisions, we’ll be able to boost our way to some nice pleasure planet like Zeltros or Spira." Emperor Palpatine is dead. The Empire is falling apart. The New Republic is trying to re-establish control and restore the people's faith in government and common order and decency. One of the projects funded by the New Republic is a holoNET show about Jedi, backed by Princess Leia herself to help raise public opinion of this long-dead religion. In the Minos Cluster, a plucky HoloNET studio gobbled up those sweet Republic credits and produced Hearts of the Force. Hearts of the Force is a holoNET show set in a "bygone era" with nobles and Jedi vying for love, honor, and glory, based on sketchy notes on the history of the Jedi Order and canon events, with a heavy dose of things made up on the fly for high drama. Their time in Arcadia has changed and twisted them, as they were forced to serve out a durance to their cruel and inhuman masters. Changelings are those who managed to leave Arcadia and come back to the mortal world. They cannot return to their former lives, and must instead learn to create a new family and find their way in the world. In this session we learn more about the missing motley and the Freehold's response to disturbing events. Our Changelings learn what they can and decide they must take matters into their own hands. CONTENT WARNING: sci-fi horror tropes, body horror, angels, demons. THROUGH A MIRROR DARKLY is mainly inspired by the sci-fi horror films Event Horizon and Solaris, with some key genre and aesthetics from the Alien trilogy and Sunshine. This game is currently in playtest, but it will be released next month! Our premise is that a crew has been tasked to board the Palantir, a mysterious ship that has been missing for years. But the crew will bring with them what haunts them, and the horrors of the Palantir will feed upon the dark emotions of our crew. In this GM-less game that is based on the Belonging Outside Belonging system, players create and strengthen the horrors they will face. If they decide their character dies, they then become a part of the Palantir, as it becomes more sentient and evil. In this playtest we explore fallen angels and timeline shenanigans! This game is part of the Gauntlet Hangouts, where folks play tabletop roleplaying games together. We focus on indie games, story games, and OSR! In this series we are playing HEARTS OF WULIN! Specifically we are playing the Supernatural playset, one of the unlocked stretch goals from the kickstarter! Hearts of Wulin is a game of melodrama. While fighting happens and duels break out, they occur because of longings, thwarted desires, and terrible duties. In a melodrama, reactions and responses are heightened, nothing is simple, and there’s always something at stake. You express and communicate through fighting, revealing things through those struggles. This session is purely a character generation one.
