In our last game of this Into the Odd series, we run the Electric Bastionland playtest rules and explore a Bastionized version of Jason Sholtis' "Operation Unfathomable"! Jen returns as Yonarla Cavendish and Beth returns as Jonita (aka, Blast). Cat plays Victoria Burnaby, the bad ass socialite, and Vince gives us not one but three urchins (Jack, John, and Jonathan) with their dog Calpurnia. Things go reasonably well, but still somehow end badly, with everyone still in debt. Something's wrong with the galaxy and I don't know what it is. It used to be better, of course it did, or so they say. In the golden age of legend, with the Republic and the Jedi Order, when there was enough to eat and enough hope, when people could lift their eyes and see beyond the horizon, beyond the blazing light of two suns. Children were born happy and some even grew up rich. Now? Wretched, baking desert. Sand people, Hutt crimelords, no account smugglers. And to make it even worse, kriffing pod racing. And you, who are you? This is what we've got, yes. What are you going to make of it? We're adapting The Apocalypse World 2nd edition RPG, a post-apocalypse game.

Try not to let him eat your friends. “Monsters and Other Childish Things” is a distressingly fun and funny roleplaying game about kids and the relationship-devouring horrors from beyond time and space who love them. Episode 2 has the crew evading the Tracers, taking turf, and figuring out what their actual product is. Episode 1 recap: In the Roots District of Shelter 1: a small gang of wired vice dealers are using the Blue Oolong Tea Shop as the front for their new operation. Customers of the Blue Oolong can glimpse the as yet unnamed gang meeting in the back room through the gently swaying bead curtain. Silver - a grizzled ex-corporate mercenary, thin and silver-haired. J5 - a washed out former child TV star, mad inventor, and saboteur. Whisper - a hacker of storms, a gangly traveler. Haboob - a caravan guard and bandit, born in the desert - hooded and veiled. We cut to the crew emerging from a smoldering conch-shell shaped tent, high up in the skyline of The Basin District. An Act of God is in progress: a building-sized whirlwind of sand and fire. They crab-walk through fierce winds across the rooftop, joined by ropes, seeking to deploy their windsock device - and extract rare components from the heart of the storm. Components that can be cooked and modified into the "good stuff": highly efficacious and valuable drugs. The fire is an unforeseen complication to an otherwise flawless plan, the sandstorm gathering up the flames as they burst to life inside broken buildings. These flames must be doused before the storm can be tapped without damaging the fragile distillation equipment within the windsock. The crew bust into the water mains and J5 employs a device - some kind of field generator - creating a waterwhip funneling into the whirlwind. The flames hiss and steam and they emerge from a hot cloud of mist with their device and the components. Silver guides the confused and panicked crew through the swirling sands and mists, past giant icebergs set to rest and drain in the heart of The Basin, along backstreets and alleyways: back to The Roots, and the Blue Oolong Tea Shop. To safety. As the storm dissipates, we flash back to the scene of the job. In amongst the broken buildings and ruptured water mains, a team of Tracers are combing over the site with forensic attention to detail: scanning all surfaces, and collecting samples. This will likely have severe consequences, clean water is rare and valuable, and the corporate congress does not take wanton waste of resources lightly.
